Industry consultants in safer recruitment
Our team of experts within the Hays Group – Hays’ CRB team and Compliance – actively participates in consultations with the CRB and ISA to help understand the impact and issues faced in the implementation of new legislation. We also advise schools and local authorities on safeguarding, and continue to present to school cluster groups and local authorities on the implications of compliance and vetting legislation on candidates received through supply agencies.
Safeguarding children is at the heart of our work
Preventing unsuitable people from working with children is our top priority. We adhere strictly to the DfE’s ‘Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education’ guidance, ensuring all appropriate checks and criteria are met.
Our central compliance team gives us independent control over candidate vetting and compliance checks, and we invest heavily in reviewing child protection and safer recruitment practices and ensuring that we are up to date with changes in legislation.
We put all our candidates through the most rigorous child protection and safeguarding training. This involves a unique online course that covers everything in terms of being aware, listening, identifying, assessing and dealing with all areas of child welfare. The end result: highly qualified individuals who can not only help ensure the safety and well-being of your children but bring added value to your school or institution.
Furthermore, each of our expert recruiters undertakes intensive compulsory compliance training so they understand the guidelines, restrictions and responsibilities. They also sign an agreement at the end of the training, that their failure to adhere to the guidelines can result in disciplinary action.
When you hire educational staff through Hays
Our compliance team, which acts independently from our operational consultants, will carry out a candidate authorisation process to ensure that they are thoroughly vetted, and they will subsequently be monitored to ensure all checks remain current.
You can be assured that all of our candidates will have either undergone or provided the following to enable you to complete and maintain your Single Central Register:
- A detailed application form and face-to-face interview with one of our consultants
- Evidence of eligibility to work in the UK
- Evidence of identity, including proof of current address
- List 99, POCAL or ISA Children’s List check (as appropriate)
- Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check (CRB) or CRB application in process
- Overseas police check / letter of good conduct for candidates spending extended periods of time overseas or whose country of origin is not in the UK
- Full career history with all gaps explored
- Satisfactory professional references
- Health declaration
On a Hays candidate’s first day we will give you a list of all completed pre-employment checks and information required for completing your school’s Single Central Vetting Register. We also ask candidates to bring a copy of their CRB disclosure, proof of their identity and proof of qualification.
