The main reasons the school come to Hays for their invigilators:
- they require high volume of invigilators per day (up to 20 people) and we are used to filling high level of bookings quickly and efficiently
- they require specialist SEN staff for access arrangements - we can provide readers, scribes, EAL support
- as with all schools Safeguarding is priority - it gives real peace of mind for the school that our staff are fully vetted in line with DFE guidelines and all have Enhanced CRBs.
- Our service is cost efficient and effective charging by the hour for minimum 3 hour bookings
How we work together
We meet prior to exams period to discuss requirements and staffing numbers and then set about recruiting staff to service exams season. We use our current available staff and advertise online for extras. Each potential exam invigilator has a face-to-face interview where we talk through their background and experience to decide if they are suitable. We then discuss the role and our expectations of staff.
We supply each candidate with a comprehensive set of guidelines agreed with the school, which comply with JCQ guidelines. We have also completed training sessions with groups of candidates to ensure they are fully prepared for the role
During the actual exams period the exams officer sends through the numbers and types of people needed for the following week in advance. The numbers can be quite large with up to twenty people needed per day. We are on hand in emergencies- in case of internal staff sickness and remain in constant contact to ensure the smooth running of exams period.
Hays Education have supplied our School St Julies Catholic High School with exam invigilation staff as well as Teaching assistants and teachers for a number of years.
During the time I have worked with Hays I have found all the staff, particularly Susan Cooney who I work closely with during exam times, to be friendly and helpful whilst providing a high quality of service.
One aspect I have particularly valued has been the personal contact with named personnel. We are contacted regularly to ascertain needs without being the least ‘pushy’. Consultants come to visit us regularly to build and maintain a strong ongoing relationship. Hays have taken the time to get to know the ethos and background of our school which has resulted in excellent matching of staff
As a school we need a large number of invigilators sometimes up to twenty staff per day as well as specialist scribes and SEN staff Sue has provided staff often at short notice who have been of a high standard and fully vetted to DfE guidelines.
I have no reservation in recommending Hays as a company to other schools to work with them not only through exam times but also for any teaching assistant or teaching cover throughout the year as a high quality recruitment service.
