Menu of consultations

We are delighted to offer you a consultation. It will be conducted over the telephone at a convenient time for you. If you are hard of hearing, we can make other arrangements for you and conduct your consultation at a Hays Education office.

We will be providing a choice of four different consultations. This is designed so that you can choose the consultation that best fits your individual needs and the stage you are at with your career.

The various consultations are set out below, including what is involved in the telephone session, and the preparation that you will need to do beforehand. Securing an interview

Participants email through up to 2 supporting statements with relevant Job Description and Person Specification.

Consultant reviews the supporting statement with notes on recommendations for changes

Consultant talks through their recommendations, giving specific examples from the supporting statement.

A detailed report will be emailed, summarising the points discussed on the telephone.

Improved skills in writing supporting statements based on evidence for personal impact.

Receiving tips and guidance to target and enhance their application.

Improving interview delivery

Participants should prepare evidence of their experience and impact against each of the 6 National Standards for Headship. *

Competency based question and answer session based around the National Standards for Headship, covering 4-6 standards.

Written transcript including initial responses with consultant feedback.

Additional sample questions provided to assist with interview preparation.

Enhance confidence by giving a tool to improve the clarity of their answers through providing specific evidence of impact.

Gives opportunities to examine their experience against the National Standards and focus their preparation on their transferable leadership skills.

Selection centres

Participants should consider past experience of assessment centres and activities and in particular their performance in presentations.

Discussion of previous experiences at assessment centres, including feedback on actual presentations delivered if appropriate.

Discussion of strategies to improve performance.

Written summary of telephone discussion. Advisory leaflet sent.

Participants provided with hints and tips on effectively delivering presentations and engaging in a variety of assessment activities.

A greater understanding of governor expectations.A greater understanding of the scoring processes of applying for posts.

Skills Awareness for HeadshipParticipants complete the behaviour profile online.

Participants prepare evidence of their experience and impact against each of the six National Standards for Headship.

Participant should consider their vision for education.

Consultant reviews the report and highlights points for discussion around strengths and areas for development with a career focus.

Competency based question and answer session based around the National Standards for Headship, covering 2 - 3 questions.

Discussion of participants’ strengths and areas for development as highlighted in the Behaviour Profile, thinking how these can be articulated at interview, considering their ability to lead strategically and their readiness for headship

A detailed report will be sent summarising the Behaviour report, along with action points and recommendations. Written transcript including the questions asked, answers given and feedback. Additional sample questions will be includedHeightened awareness of strengths and areas for development.

Enhance confidence by giving a tool to improve the clarity of their answers through providing specific evidence of impact.
