Many of the IT jobs available involve working at the "front-line", dealing directly with schools and governors. Other roles involve consultancy, support, and training on all aspects of systems applications and management.
You do not necessarily need education experience, as increasingly departments are looking for people with commercial awareness.
Public sector education funding is the responsibility of individual Local Education Authorities (LEAs). LEAs cover large geographical areas – cities or even counties – and therefore have large IT divisions.
