Realising the potential

Hays contributed to a global joint research paper by ACCA and Mercer which provides a comprehensive view of the strategies needed to successfully recruit, develop and retain a generation of young finance people.

The findings include insights from more than 3,200 Generation Y finance professionals in 122 countries, and directly support ACCA’s global programme in 2010, Accountants for Business. As a contributor to the research, we want to share the highlights of the findings with you. Here is a small selection of some of the interesting results:

  • There are major retention issues, with almost one-third of survey respondents wanting to leave their organisation
  • Younger finance professionals need to understand what career paths are available for them within their organisations
  • Employers that can demonstrate a stable recruitment environment and a longer-term proposition will be better able to attract talent
  • Broadly, lifestyle factors are more important than contractual factors in attracting this generation to organisations
