Reporting to the Site Manager and liasing with the client's Resident Engineer or Consultant, a Site Engineer will almost certainly have formal construction or civil engineering qualifications, typically an OND/HND or a graduate Honours Degree.
The role of the site engineer is to ensure that everything that is involved in the project, be it a house, building, road, bridge etc. is constructed in exactly the correct position and elevation according to the plans devised by the designers.

Excellent communication skills are a must as there is a good deal of interaction with clients and consultants; client-facing experience is desirable as is a strong teamworking ethic.
