OUR EXPERT OPINION

Having recently taken a year out to spend time with her children, Beth has approached Hays ideally seeking a long term position within the Wigan and surrounding area. Beth has previously worked as a Head of both KS3 and KS4 English, where she has been responsible for creating schemes of work and has regularly had her lessons graded as outstanding, therefore demonstrating her expertise and strong teaching skills.

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

• Graded as “outstanding” in lesson observations and has also participated in OFSTED preparation to support teachers in becoming outstanding.
• Re-wrote schemes of work and set up a KS3 tracking and intervention system.
• Undertook role as Head of KS4 English as a maternity cover.
• Experience in leading literacy summer schools, deeper learning days and creating department resources.

PERSONAL PROFILE

“I am a passionate and positive person, highly motivated to be an outstanding teacher and to ensure that every single one of the pupils I teach receives the best education possible.

In my previous post as Head of Key Stage Three and teaching and learning I have re-written schemes of work, set up a tracking and intervention system to extend the value we add and provide a sound foundation for Key Stage Four.

During my time at my previous school I undertook the role of Head of Key Stage Four as a maternity cover for a colleague. I led the introduction of a new specification, ensuring the department was prepared for the changes of the new curriculum. I was responsible for KS4 examinations, organising and overseeing moderation and ultimately the Key Stage Four results, which were on target and pleasing.

The results of pupils I taught were consistently on or above those of the department as a whole and the progress of boys in my classes was in line with that of girls. Last year 90% of the pupils in my two GCSE classes made 3 levels of progress. The department as a whole was 86% and this was the highest of all the core subjects in the school.

In my previous schools I achieved excellent SATs, GCSE and A2 results. Lesson observations highlighted and praised my planning, marking and positive relationships with classes. I was representative for the black peoples’ forum, assessing and managing the inclusion of a range of cultures into our schemes of work, liaising with members of the forum and finding ways to include their ideas and culture into the curriculum. In this role I organised in-school performances and workshops from different cultural groups.”
