I am currently working with a highly successful Business Intelligence Consultant who has just finished a major Greenfield design and development of a SQL server 2014 data warehouse after a consultative review and decommission of failed 2.5 TB SQL Server R2 environment.

A skilled technology professional experienced in complex requirements gathering, data discovery and modelling, and SQL and analysis solutions. Successfully delivered transformative software solutions in Finance, Retail, Higher Education, Logistics and customer services.

SQL Server Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert and certified in IT security and Windows Server.

SQL Server versions experience:

- 2000 to 2014 database development, performance tuning and administration
- 2005 to 2014 Integration Services (SSIS), project and package deployment models
- 2005 to 2014 Reporting Services (SSRS)
- 2008 to 2014 Analysis Services (SSAS), Multidimensional and Tabular models

The project at Dundee university included -

• Full HR and Finance coverage with query performance maximised by clustered columnstore index facts and highly tuned B-tree dimensions – sub-second aggregates on facts up to 62 million rows (per-day, transaction or period granularity as appropriate)

• Highly refined SSIS incremental loads update all dimensions and facts every minute

• Co-created new Cognos BI 10 frameworks

• Project managed on JIRA with fortnightly sprints across two Agile Epics

Data Integration

• Developed SSIS database and XML integrations between HR and student Line-of-Business systems and multiple specialised systems including Elsevier Pure (Publications and Research), Ex Libris Alma (library management system) and Key Travel, with zero failures since launch (10 months)

• Transitioned multiple integration processes through a University-wide restructure

• Documented all business requirements and produced signed off documents and flow diagrams presenting ETL logic in suitable language for end users

Common to both projects:

• Completed data discovery, quality analysis and cleansing candidates, and PL/SQL extractions from multiple source systems including Oracle E-Business Suite (HR and Payroll), Unit4 Financials (formerly Coda), PECOS, SITS and bespoke Oracle solutions

• All data loads implemented in two multi-project Visual Studio 2013 solutions, one for BI and for integrations, using SQL Server 2014 Integration Services Project Deployment Model (SSDT-BI), database projects (SSDT), Microsoft Connector for Oracle by Attunity, COZYROC SSIS+ Ultimate, Red Gate SQL Developer Suite and GitHub

• Scripted, implemented and administered Enterprise and Standard Edition deployments on Server Core – fully compliant with University quality and security standards

• ETL dashboard developed and made generally available to management staff, providing access to ETL traffic lights and metadata, logs and fact statistics

• Documented all processes, development standards and applied best practices
