Working with your consultant
Identifying the right new opportunity for you is not simply a case of matching CVs with job descriptions – there are many other factors that come into play.
Obviously, the changing of jobs has a significant impact on the direction of your career and Hays Banking's consultants aim to take you in the right direction. Our history, expertise and knowledge have helped us create an unrivalled network of clients.
Where we start
Many professionals struggle to edit their CV in such a way that the key aspects of their career, experience, skill set and personality traits are highlighted. Therefore, at the first meeting, your consultant will work with you to produce an edited and effective CV.
The process involves assessing both your skills and personality, as well as identifying your career aspirations. Since your consultant’s first objective is to get you an interview with the firms you wish to meet, it is in his or her interests to produce the most effective CV possible. As well as this, a profile of your skills and qualifications will be prepared for our website.
Once your CV has been agreed, our primary aim will be to put you forward for all the vacancies in which you’re interested. Your consultant will discuss with you the opportunities presented by each role, and provide you with an insight into the culture of the recruiting organisation.
Should you be successful in securing an interview, your consultant will ensure you have all the relevant information about the organisation beforehand. This doesn’t just include corporate literature but also Hays’ own insight into the company, gleaned from regular visits and briefings, as well as from candidates for previous jobs and temps who’ve worked there.
In addition, Hays Banking provides complete pre- and post-interview consultations, ensuring that you go into interviews as fully prepared as possible and, even if you are then unsuccessful, that you are provided with genuine, honest and constructive feedback to help with future interviews and assessments.
Where you come in
It is imperative that you provide your consultant with feedback directly after your interview. If your feedback is positive and you are interested in the position, your consultants will ensure that your enthusiasm is relayed back to the interviewer. Many of Hays Banking’s clients call their consultant within an hour of conducting a first interview, and most would be disappointed to discover that the consultant has not yet received feedback from the candidate. Our aim is to give your potential employer the best possible impression of you, so your early feedback is crucial.
Also, there may well be questions arising from the interview, or even a misunderstanding or misinterpretation of statements, so informing your consultant of these as early as possible will enable them to quickly resolve these queries on you behalf.
Keeping the heat on
As a second line of approach, your consultant may also suggest a remarketing exercise. This will involve drawing up a list of firms that you are interested in, but where there are no known vacancies. These firms can be approached on a speculative basis, either with full disclosure and your CV or on a no-names basis. Hays Banking does this in order to provide a complete proactive service on your behalf, which tends to be successful, depending on your skill set and experience.
We have a large number of contacts and links within the banking industry, which we will utilise to their fullest when assisting with your job search. After the initial marketing exercise, your details will be held on a sophisticated computerised search system, so that even if your consultant is unavailable when new jobs are registered, his or her colleagues will be aware of your suitability for the new appointment and will contract you.
In addition to interviewing, preparing CVs and marketing exercises, consultants spend a lot of their time liaising with their clients, and marketing the Hays service. They will also network with other experienced professionals in your field to keep abreast of issues from the employees’ perspective – all to secure you the right job for you.
