Ability testing

Cognitive ability (numerical, verbal and critical reasoning) is the most effective single predictor of future performance in many different jobs.

Ability tests are an objective form of assessment, which cannot be compromised by personal bias. The information presented is relevant to a business environment with candidates’ test performance on the tests benchmarked against a relevant peer group, providing a clear indication of their ability in comparision to a job relevant comparison group.

Online testing provides flexibility of access to the tests, with options of candiates completing unsupervised at home or in a more secure environment through the Hays national office network.

Tests can be used as an effective ‘sift tool’, short list aid or selection aid. However, many other factors also play important roles in predicting job performance. The information about the test results should be used as part of a broader evaluation of an individual’s suitability and potential.

Choose from the following tests, depending on your needs:

Numerical reasoning test. This test measures the ability to make correct decisions or inferences from numerical data. The emphasis in these tasks is on understanding and evaluating data rather than on computation. People who perform well on this test tend to have the capacity to understand numerical data and interpret mathematical information correctly.  Download a sample of this product.

Verbal reasoning test. This test measures the ability to evaluate the logic of various kinds of arguments. The test emphasises understanding, using and evaluating verbal information rather than language usage, spelling or grammar. People who perform well on this test tend to have the capacity to readily understand reports and documents.  Download a sample of this product.

Diagrammatic reasoning test. This test measures the ability to work with incomplete information and create solutions to novel problems from first principles. People who perform well on this test will have a greater capacity to think conceptually and strategically as well as analytically. Download a sample of this product.

Error checking test. This test measures the ability to check the correctness of transposed information. Measuring candidate attention to detail and ability to identify errors in numerical, verbal and coded information. Download a sample of this product.
